Dialogue Writing:

Dialogue is a spontaneous exchange of thoughts between two or more persons.

Tips for Dialogue Writing:

  1. Understand the topic (formal or informal type)
  2. Every dialogue must be short and simple.
  3. Characters should talk to each other and not talk at each other.
  4. Use proper punctuation.
  5. Begin with appropriate introduction and end with conclusion.
  6. Maintain a logical and meaningful continuity between the dialogues.

1. Write a dialogue between them about discipline to be maintained in the school library.

(Amit/Amita and Pritam/Pratima enter in the school library. They find many students seating and talking with each other.)

You may use the paints given below:

  • Should maintain silence.
  • Should handle books carefully.
  • Discussions to be avoided.
  • Maintaining Library card.
  • Punctuality in submissions
  • Types of book-academic co-curricular, dictionaries, encyclopedias etc.

In the Library:

(Scene: Amita and Pratima walk into the library and see some students not following rules.)

Amita: Pratima, I think students should follow proper discipline in the library.

Pratima: I agree. First of all, everyone should maintain silence here.

Amita: Yes, and they must not damage or fold the pages of books.

Pratima: Exactly. Handling books carefully is very important.

Amita: And discussions should be avoided inside the library.

Pratima: Right. They should also maintain their library card properly and return books on time.

Amita: That’s true. It helps other students to get the books on time.

Pratima: We are lucky to have so many types of books — academic, co-curricular, dictionaries, encyclopedias.

Amita: Yes. If we follow all the rules, the library will remain a peaceful place for everyone.

2. Write a dialogue between them. You may use the following points:

(Shivam/Shivani and Kapil/Kapila are waiting for their train at the railway station. Their train is late by 30 minutes. Being free they are conversing with each other.)

  • Trains are frequently late
  • Reason for delay.
  • Cleanliness at railway station.
  • Unhygienic canteens.
  • Lack of mannerism in commuters boarding and alighting the train
  • Long queues at ticket counters
  • Suggestions and solutions to make improvement in Indian Railways

 At the Railway Station:

(Scene: Shivam and Kapil are waiting for their train, which is late by 30 minutes.)

Shivam: Oh no, Kapil! Our train is late again by 30 minutes.

Kapil: Yes, Shivam. Trains are frequently late these days.

Shivam: Do you know the reason for this delay?

Kapil: I heard it’s because of heavy traffic on the railway routes and sometimes poor maintenance.

Shivam: Hmm. And look at the station — it’s not very clean.

Kapil: True. There’s litter on the platforms. The canteens also look unhygienic.

Shivam: Yes, the food is kept in the open. It can cause health problems.

Kapil: Also, when the train comes, people don’t wait for passengers to get down first.

Shivam: Exactly. There is no sense of mannerism while boarding and alighting.

Kapil: And see those long queues at the ticket counters. It wastes so much time.

Shivam: I think more online ticket machines and strict cleanliness rules can help.

Kapil: Yes, and people should be taught to follow proper manners. That will improve our railways.

Shivam: I hope things improve soon. Oh look—the announcement says our train is arriving!

3. Write an imaginary dialogue between them. You may use the points given below:(Anuj/Anuja and Swaroop/Swaroopa had been to a government hospital to see their music teacher who has been hospitalized. As they reached before the visiting hours, they were not allowed to meet the patient. Being free they started moving about in the hospital.)

  • Long queue in OPD.
  • Unhygienic washrooms.
  • Polite behaviour of hospital authorities and employees
  • Poor canteen facility.
  • Good care of patients.

In the Hospital

(Scene: Anuj and Swaroop are waiting in the hospital as they came early to meet their music teacher.)

Anuj: We came too early, Swaroop. The visiting hours haven’t started yet.

Swaroop: Yes, let’s walk around the hospital while we wait.

Anuj: Look at that long queue in the OPD section. So many patients are waiting.

Swaroop: True. Government hospitals are always crowded.

Anuj: But one thing I noticed — the hospital staff are polite and helpful to everyone.

Swaroop: Yes, I saw a nurse calmly guiding an old patient just now. That’s good.

Anuj: But the washrooms don’t look clean. They should be maintained properly.

Swaroop: I agree. Even the canteen here doesn’t seem very good. The food looks stale.

Anuj: Still, the doctors and nurses seem to take good care of the patients.

Swaroop: That’s true. Our music teacher must be in safe hands here.

Anuj: Yes. Let’s wait here quietly until the visiting hours begin.

4. Write a conversation between you and bank manager regarding to open of an account in the bank.
(Mr. Patil is sitting in the office of The Bank Manager of SBI Bank at Dombivli, as I wish to open an account with the Bank)

Bank Manager: (with a warm smile) How can I help you?
Mr. Patil:Good morning sir (as I shook hand with the manager) I wish to open an account with            your bank. Please guide me about the procedure for the same.
Bank Manager: Ok. That’s nice the procedure is actually very simple. You just need a few documents like an address proof, 1 photo Id, Pan card and 3 photographs and just fill up the form.
Mr. Patil: But Sir what all benefits will I have if I open and account?
Bank Manager: You will have an ATM cum debit card to use. We have facilities like Internet Banking and telebanking in addition to the cheque book.
Mr. Patil: With what amount can I start my account?
Bank Manager: The minimum balance to start an account is 1000 /- and this much of balance has to be maintained throughout.
Mr. Patil : Alright. I live at Dombivli but my uncle stays at Kalyan and I frequently visit him. So it becomes a trouble to access my account.
Bank Manager: Oh. Don’t worry as I mentioned earlier you can use the internet banking facility or approach any other branch of SBI for cash or cheque deposit or withdrawal.
Mr. Patil : Oh, that's a relief. You really have customer friendly services.
Bank Manager: Yes, that's our ultimate goal anyway here is your form, fill it up and attach all the documents required and your accounts will be opened within 24 hrs.
Mr. Patil : Thank you so much for your time I'll see you tomorrow then, good bye.
